Nitong Huwebes Santo ay nagbabala si Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas sa mga Katoliko tungkol sa ‘unity’ na binuo sa pamamagitan ng pera at politika.
Ayon kay Villegas, kung hindi daw galing sa pagpapakumbaba ang nasabing ‘unity’ ay mawawawsak din ito.
“When unity does not come from humility, it will also self-destroy. Because unity that is based on money, will be destroyed by money. Unity that is based on political power, will be destroyed by political power itself. Unity that is achieved by our common crimes and sins and defects will be destroyed eventually by the same defects,” sabi ni Villegas sa kanyang Homily nitong Huwebes.
“Humility is important for unity, because when the arrogant come together, that is not a unity, that is a syndicate for crime. We must come together to be united, but the seedbed of all unity should be humility. When that happens, then unity really becomes our strength. Unity without humility is not a virtue,” dagdag niya pa.
Matatandaan na ibinibida ngayon ng nangungunang tambalan sa kampanya na si Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Sara Duterte ang salitang “unity”.
Hindi naman maikakaila na nagkaroon nga ng unity sa kampo ni Marcos at Duterte lalo na’t ilang partido at daan daang politiko ang nagkapit bisig para suportahan ang tandem.
Nakatanggap narin ng batikos noon mula kay Duterte si Villegas dahil sa pambabatikos ng arsobispo sa kasalukuyang administrasyon.
