Pinaalalahanan ng Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang mga miyembro ng simbahan kasama na ang mga pari na panatilihin nila ang pagiging ‘non-partisan’ pagdating sa mga kandidato sa pagkapangulo.
Sa kanyang pahayag, sinabi ni executive secretary ng CBCP permanent committee on public affairs na si Father Jerome Secillano na dapat ay hayaan ng mga miyembro ng simbahan ang mga tao na iboto ang napupusuan nilang kandidato.
“Because nuns, priests and bishops are voters too, we cannot dictate to them who to vote for… Let the common people choose their candidates while priests and bishops keep their voting preferences private,” ani Secillano.
Matatandaan na nitong nakaraan lamang ay nagpahayag ng suporta ang 500 pari at mga madre kay presidential candidate at Vice President Leni Robredo.
“All things considered, among the candidates who have laid out their political platforms and applied for the highest and the second highest posts of the land, we adjudge that it is Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ G. Robredo and Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan who best fit the job to be the next president and vice president of the Philippines,” sabi ng grupo na ‘Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni” sa kanilang pahayag.
Ibinigay din ng Diocese ng Kalookan na si Bishop Pablo Virgilio David na presidente din ng CBCP ang kanyang “blessing” sa mga local lay group para suportahan si Robredo.
Wala pang pahayag si David sa paalala ni Secillano.
Samantala ay ibinigay naman ng lider ng Catholic group na El Shaddai na si Bro. Mike Velarde ang kanyang pagsuporta kay presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos na tinutulan naman ng spiritual adviser nila na si retired Novaliches Bishop Ted Bacani.
